What Do You Wear to Work
By Alice Lane
No matter where you work there is a dress code, whether it is written or not.
Many times it is very clear and written down with very specific guidelines on how to wear the uniform or how to dress appropriately for the workplace.
Most people have seen restaurants and fast food establishments where the uniforms are all the same.
McDonald's uniforms are pretty standard around the world. IBM used to make their men wear a tie and
jacket until the temperature hit one hundred degrees and then the men could take off their jacket.
The medical profession is another business where people have to follow a dress code for more than just looks.
A nurse doesn't wear a print scrub top just because it looks good.
The idea behind scrubs for some in the medical profession is also for sanitary reasons.
You can get nursing scrubs for sale online, in catalogs or at uniform stores but you won't find them everywhere, just like you won't find police uniforms anywhere.
You are much more versatile with a dress code like that at IBM or one much more relaxed where you just have to wear business casual.
The advantage of having a uniform is that people can tell you apart from others.
Can you imagine a policeman wearing the same clothes an IBM sales rep wears? They would surely be under cover because you couldn't tell them apart from anyone else.
If you saw someone in plus size scrubs working behind the bar at your local restaurant you might find that a bit disconcerting.
You might be wondering if they just got off work and are now back there serving your drink after working with a patient with the flu?
The idea of wearing a uniform for some starts in elementary school.
Some schools require uniforms for everyone so there is no difference based on clothes.
Some people go through life seemingly never wearing a uniform. However, dressing for a particular job may be construed as a uniform by some.
Jeans and a t-shirt everyday is what may be needed or accepted so is it a uniform?
Whether you are wearing a print scrub top you got at a nursing scrubs for sale website or if you
are wearing plus sized scrubs, people can guess which general profession you are a part of.
